Over at CHIC, May is one of our favorite times of the year. And no, it’s not just because of May flowers, the first sign of hot summer nights, or our favorite Justin Timberlake meme:
We adore May because of the infamous Met Gala – the annual fundraising event that benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit (which lasts from May – September) and highlights a selected fashion designer each year. That, in itself, makes the Met Gala an event that is one-of-a-kind. But what makes it even more special is the over-the-top and stunning ensemble choices donned by attendees.
You may be wondering “Why would furniture specialists be so interested in a fashion exhibit?” Since CHIC specializes in designing and building our lounge furniture, dining, and accent pieces in house, we are proactive about staying on top of design trends and follow them on an array of different platforms. One of which being the fashion industry. Because after all, the fashion industry inspires design trends in a variety of creative industries – including the world of special events!
The truth is, every year we all swoon over the clothing sported by the guests of the Met Gala. So why not adapt those looks into the design of your next corporate, social, or private event? We’ve highlighted our Top 5 Favorite Looks from the Met Gala 2017, and transformed them into furniture vignettes.
5.) Rila Fukushima in Louis Vuitton
What we really loved about this dress is the texture – at CHIC, we are SUCKERS for texture. The three-dimensional effect makes the look interesting and luxurious. Not to mention, the height of the knee high boots provides a drama factor that cannot be beat. This look inspired us to combine the height of our Black Velvet High Back sofa with our fun textured accent pillows.

4.) Anna Wintour in Chanel
Who can resist this level of elegance?! It’s classic, timeless, and glamourous. Right now, we’re all about faux furs and pops of metallic. So these chic accent pillows were a no-brainer. We’re loving the shape of the dress, so we opted to highlight the curves on our Luna coffee table and Curved Minotti sofas.

3.) Zendaya in Dolce & Gabanna Alta Moda
This gown screams glamour with a bright, tropical twist. We’re seriously digging the bold combination of colors. The parrots and flowers inspired us to design a vignette for an outdoor, summer event. We wanted to show off the authentic wicker on our South Seas lounge chairs, since the natural element softens the vibrant design. Add in the Chrome Accent end tables and you’ve got the perfect pop of luxury.

2.) Blake Lively in Atelier Versace
Two words: Show. Stopper. This look is Art Deco with a colorful twist. Let’s be real, gold is HUGE right now, so you can’t go wrong with gold accents. Which is why we threw in our Gold & Champagne statement pillows and our Gold Accent end tables. We wanted to play up the two tones of blue in the gown (because that’s what makes this look so stinkin’ fabulous) so we opted for our Corn Flower Blue Minotti sofa and Seafoam pillows.

1.) Rihanna in Comme des Garcons
WOW! This gown is dripping in drama, genius, and everything in-between. The unexpected color and pattern combinations, the structure, the shape…. ::Swoons:: We gravitated towards our Natuzzi collection for this one due to it’s smooth, round corners. And we have to say, our cornflower blue and muted floral accent pillows finished the look off flawlessly.

So there you have it, friends. Five ways to make your guests feel CHIC by bringing the red carpet to your next event!
